Shipping Changes

April 11, 2020

New rules regarding shipping have taken effect due to the impact of the coronavirus.

Currently, we are unable to ship small orders (5 pounds / 2 kg or less) and our carrier DHL has raised rates on larger packages to nearly double what will likely be shown in your shopping cart.

We expect this situation to change within a couple of months, but in the meantime, we are not accepting immediate payment on new orders. Instead, we will calculate the new weight-based shipping charge on your order and contact you with the updated price.

If your order is under 5 pounds there will be a delay in getting your order to you. We have large shipments going to our New York location on a semi-monthly basis and will include smaller orders in these shipments. Your order will then be sent to you from New York.

Large orders will continue to be shipped by way of DHL and the US Postal Service directly to our customer’s location, however, the cost of shipping will be determined after your order has been prepared for shipping.

We know this is a difficult time for our customers and one that is made even more burdensome by shipping delays and higher costs. This is the unavoidable result of the global pandemic and we are all hoping the situation is resolved in the near future. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through these changes.

Stay safe and healthy,

Your friends at Old German Clay Pipes.

Shipping changes

Due to the impact of the coronavirus on international shipping, we are temporarily suspending payment for orders placed on the website.

When you go to the check out page, the weight-based shipping shown in the cart MIGHT NOT reflect the actual price of the shipping. Many carriers are changing their base price for packages and in some cases refusing to ship packages to some countries.

After you place your order we will contact you with any updates regarding shipping and let you know what the final cost of your order will be. We will then issue an invoice.

You can always email with any questions.

We are working to get the shipping charges right.

If you have placed items in your cart in February of 2019 you may have been shocked by the cost of shipping. Please be aware that this is an issue we are working on. Shipping costs from Germany have increased this year so we have had to make adjustments to the weight based shipping to get the cost close to the actual shipping cost.

We haven’t gotten it right yet but are fine tuning it so that an order of 60 small clay pipes doesn’t almost as much to ship as it does to purchase.

Please do not let the the shipping cost dissuade you from filling you shopping cart. You can email KC Ellis, US Distributor and he will get you the correct shipping cost.

We will update this notice as soon as we are confident the the problem has been resolved.
